Adopt From a Rescue or Shelter - Save a Life....or 30,000!

In 2005, in one single shelter in Florda, 36,620 pets were dropped off or brought in as strays to this shelter.  2,800 of them were adopted into new homes.  1,101 were sent to rescue groups, DARE being one of them.  DARE took 34 dachshunds from this shelter, all that were ever offered to us.

Sadly, 30,464 of those pets died in the shelter because they were either aggressive, too old, too sick or just plain never had anyone show up that wanted to take them home. Over thirty thousand pets! Once, someone loved that animal enough to bring it into their home, or maybe they brought home that pet's parent but never spayed or neutered the animal and created unwanted litters.  Over thirty thousand pets! Of that number, 15,070 were dogs, 15,394 were cats or other animals.
